Dizzyingly vibrant, Opal has been said to hold the color of every gemstone inside of it. Called “the Hummingbird Stone” in ancient Mayan, the vibrant and ephemeral colors of this magical gem have captured imaginations for centuries, drawing comparisons to all the most mystical creations of nature. But with all this attention, of course, there has also been a bit of scandal.
Perhaps you’ve heard it’s unlucky to own Opal if you are not born in the month of October? It’s actually still quite common to hear, but that particular fear can be traced to a 19th century novel written by Sir Walter Scott. And who can begrudge him the rumor?
